Know Your Bill

Limited to the first 100 South African businesses

Know what you are actually paying before you decide what to do about it.

Book a fifteen-minute call. A person on our team will ask about your site, tell you which bills we need, then check twelve months of them against what your meter actually recorded, and whether your account is set up correctly. Free, with no obligation. The findings are yours whether you go any further with us or not.

We are opening this to one hundred businesses. Every check is done by a person, so when those places are filled, we close it.

Book your call

Fifteen minutes with a person on our team. You don't need your bills to hand.

No bills needed yet. No obligation.

One of a hundred places.

Nobody read your meter.

Most businesses assume the electricity bill is arithmetic. Meter reading in, tariff applied, invoice out.

For a large share of large power users, that is not what happens. The meter is not read. A figure is estimated instead. And when we have gone looking for the readings those estimates were supposedly built on, in a meaningful number of cases the readings were not there.

So you can be paying, month after month, for a number nobody measured, on a tariff nobody checked, with no record to argue against.

Your bill says how much power you used. Your meter says how much power you actually used. Almost nobody has ever compared the two.

A bill can be wrong in two ways.

It can be billed wrong. Or it can be billed exactly right, on an account that was set up wrong years ago. We check both.

Was it billed right?

  • Whether each month's reading was measured or estimated.
  • Whether what you were billed agrees with what your meter recorded.
  • Whether the time of use periods were applied correctly.
  • Whether demand charges were calculated on the right basis.

Is the account set up right?

  • Whether you are on the tariff that suits how you actually use power, compared with the alternatives available to you.
  • Whether your notified maximum demand is set higher than your site has ever needed.
  • Whether you are paying reactive energy charges you could avoid.

If you have no meter data

If your site has no interval metering, there is nothing to compare the bill against, and that is worth knowing on its own. We can still do a great deal from the bills alone. We'll tell you what is missing and what it would take to put it right, and we can point you to an installer. Metering hardware is not part of the free check. We do not sell it, and we take nothing from anyone who does.

It starts with a fifteen-minute call.

  1. Book a call.

A person on our team asks about your site and your account, and tells you exactly which bills to send. Nothing to prepare.

  2. Send us the bills.

Twelve months, because estimated readings show up as a pattern across a year, and how you use power in winter is not how you use it in summer. Send what you have and we'll ask for the rest.

  3. A person checks them.

The same team goes through every month against your meter data and your account settings. Not a script.

  4. You get the findings.

A written result showing where you were billed correctly and where you were not, and what the difference is worth in rand. Written so your finance team can read it without us in the room.

Everyone else charges you to find out whether you are being overcharged.

Metering bureaus bill you a monthly fee per meter. Consultants take a share of whatever they recover for you. The information you need to check your own electricity bill has always sat behind a paywall, which is the wrong way round.

Our business is private energy deals. You cannot negotiate a long-term energy contract off a bill nobody has verified, so we start by checking it, and we give you the result.

Ask anyone else offering to look at your electricity costs one question: who pays you, and when. The answer tells you what their report is going to say.

Nothing you do not ask for.

  • We do not take a share of anything we find.

If there is an error worth recovering, the recovery is yours in full.

  • Your data is used for your check and nothing else.

We do not sell it, share it or trade on it.

We handle your information in line with POPIA.

  • Nobody in the market sees it.

We own no generation and we take no trading position, so your consumption profile never reaches anyone who could use it against you in a deal.

If you want to go further with us, you'll know the fee before you commit to anything, and it's in writing. If you don't, the findings are still yours.

You can go back three years.

If you are on an Eskom account and you have been billed incorrectly, you can challenge it up to three years back. Most businesses never do, because nobody ever told them the reading was estimated in the first place.

We find it. You claim it. We do not take a cent of it.

Questions.

Is it actually free?

Yes. No fee, no share of anything you recover, and no obligation to take anything else. Metering hardware is not included. If you need it, we'll tell you and point you to an installer.

What if my bill turns out to be correct?

Then you have written confirmation that it is, and a checked year of your consumption, which is exactly what you need before you negotiate anything else. We tell you plainly and leave you alone.

Why start with a call?

Because every account is different. Fifteen minutes tells us which bills matter for your site, so you only send what we need, and you know who is doing your check.

Will you try to sell me something on the call?

No. The call is about your bills and your site. If you want to talk about anything else, we will. If you don't, we won't raise it.

Is my bill likely to be wrong?

We don't know, and anyone who tells you otherwise before seeing your bills is guessing. What we do know is that almost nobody has ever checked.

I'm on a municipal account. Does this still work?

Yes. Whether your account is with Eskom or your municipality, we'll tell you what you can claim once we've seen your bills.

We already have a private supply agreement. Does this still apply?

Yes. You still get an Eskom or municipal bill, and it still needs checking. Checking the supply agreement itself is a separate service, agreement performance assurance, and we'll tell you the fee before we start.

Why is it limited to a hundred businesses?

Because a person does every check, and we would rather do a hundred properly than a thousand badly.

What happens when the hundred places are filled?

We close it. Enrolment is first come, first served, from the day the page goes live.

How long does it take?

Ten working days from the point we have your bills. Gathering twelve months is usually the longest part, and we'll tell you on the call exactly what to look for.

One hundred businesses. Then we close it.

Every check is done by a person, not a script, so there is a limit to how many we can run properly. Book fifteen minutes with a person on our team. The check is free, and it is yours whether you go any further with us or not.
